Creating a System Restore Point
Creating a System Restore Point is something that all users should do monthly. There may be a point
when you are unable to fix a software issue, or an infection has caused so many problems, that the only solution is to restore
the PC to a point before the infection. When you use System Restore, you can revert to a saved state without losing
personal data including Word documents, e-mail settings and messages, and your Internet favorites list. System Restore won't
lose any data you have stored in the My Documents, My Pictures, or My Music folders either.Creating a restore point is easy...The
instructions below are for Windows XP...
-
Click Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore
-
For Classic Start Menu: Click Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.
-
Click Create a restore point, and then click Next.
-
In the Restore point description box, type a name to identify this restore point. System Restore automatically
adds to this name the date and time that this Restore Point is created.
-
To finish creating this restore point, click Create.
When the time comes that you want to restore your Computer to a point that you set, all you have to do is click
Start, click All Programs, click Accesories, and click System Restore.
Next select the date on the calendar you want to restore your PC to and click NEXT. On the
Confirm Point Selection Page, verify you have selected the correct restore point and click NEXT. The
PC will reboot itself and upon restart you will be brought to the Restoration Page. Once you have verified
your system is running correctly, create a new restore point for future use.
